Legrand’s New Dual-Function AFCI/GFCI Receptacle Reduces Callbacks and Inventory, Saves Money

West Hartford, CT. -- November 7, 2016 -- Legrand, a leading provider of electrical wiring devices and home systems, today announced the availability of its new Pass & Seymour® Dual-Function AFCI/GFCI Receptacle.  Aimed at the residential market, the AFCI/GFCI Receptacle is the latest innovation in electrical safety, and a Code-approved alternative to AFCI/GFCI breakers.

Designed to protect against electrical fires caused by arc faults and injury due to electrical shock, these new devices are compliant with NEC® AFCI and GFCI requirements in kitchens and laundry areas for new construction, circuit modifications/extensions and replacement receptacles.

Like GFCI receptacles, AFCI/GFCI receptacles are installed at the point of use, so homeowners easily see the indicator light, and perform TEST and RESET locally. The Pass & Seymour Dual-Function AFCI/GFCI Receptacle has separate indicator lights for AFCI and GFCI, making it easy to distinguish between a trip caused by an arc fault and a trip caused by a ground fault.

Delivering AFCI and GFCI protection in a single, code-compliant device at the point of use benefits the homeowner and the contractor, according to Bill Timmons, Director of Marketing at Legrand. “The receptacle is in the living area, not out of sight, or in the basement. This means less confusion for the homeowner and easier troubleshooting and fewer callbacks for the contractor.”

Unlike AFCI/GFCI breakers, which must match the brand of the breaker box, the Dual-Function AFCI/GFCI Receptacles are universal, fitting any wall box and reducing the amount of inventory a contractor needs to carry on their truck.

The GFCI function has a self-test feature that tests itself every three seconds—instead of the industry-standard three hours—providing an unprecedented level of protection.

The Dual-Function AFCI/GFCI Receptacle, which is part of Legrand’s radiant® collection, comes with ground terminal back-wiring and two holes per termination for added flexibility and faster installation. The auto-ground clip assures a positive ground to the metal box. Each Dual-Function AFCI/GFCI Receptacle has tamper-resistant shutters and Legrand’s patented SafeLock® protection for added safety.
